Welcome!
As an undergraduate, I helped Ralph Haugerud and Harvey Greenberg build the first combined topographic and bathymetric digital elevation model (DEM) of Puget Sound. This dataset still represents the best available complete physiography of the region.
My Master's work under David Montgomery and Bernard Hallet looked at the spatial distribution of erosion in the Himalaya. It made extensive use of GIS to model the large-scale hydrography of the Himalaya and inferred erosion rates by modeling stream power across the entire orogen.
My Ph.D. research under Jeff Parsons and Miles Logsdon focused on the geomorphology of the beaches of Puget Sound; characterizing the beaches, the processes that create and destroy them, and the impact of waves on seagrass ecosystems.
My new job at the USGS is as an operational geologist in charge of swath mapping for west coast operations.
Please send me an email if you have any questions or comments about my work or this web site.
Thanks,
David Finlayson
